Swimming

Irad and I are both life-long swimmers. About eight years ago, we were drafted into a group of local enthusiasts who swim in the same high school pool we swim in—a Masters Swimming group.

ah. beautiful pool.

Swimming with this group has transformed my swimming experience from one of solitary drudgery to communal inspiration. Irad has gone from swimming a careful 1000 yards daily to 4000 yards (once a record 7000) and I have moved up to 2000 meters daily, with the occasional 3200 meters during weekend workouts. We have been exposed to different techniques, such as Total Immersion, (TI) and various approaches, including the one member of our group who is an open-water record setter. But most of all, we have gained an interesting and eclectic group of friends from different corners of the Earth—India, Iran, Israel, China and France have all been represented over the years, along with many professions—medicine, music, academia, journalism, engineering, business, home repair, home building. I look forward to first Thursdays of the month when we follow our workouts with "Pizza Night," and always enjoy the swimmer parties hosted at various homes throughout the year.

Always a warm welcome

We have been so fortunate to have this group of people in our lives, and I can't say enough about the benefits of swimming. It is my lifeline to health and good spirits.
